ABOUT SMARTFIT

The SmartFit search tool is a unique frame sizing calculator designed to help you find the correct size and shape bike. This simple yet effective tool works off a principle of frame shape: height and length.

You may be aware that bike sizes are not consistent or universal; some bikes sizes reference seat tube length (47, 48, 51 etc) while others are based on size names (S, M, L). This can be confusing. The SmartFit tool simplifies matters by searching the geometry of the bike frame based on your height and inseam. Our tool finds bikes with the right dimensions irrespective of the nominal ‘size’.

You can also fine tune your search by choosing your preferred position: race/comfort. Select Race Fit if you're looking for a fast reacting race bike with an aggressive position. Select Comfort Fit if you're looking for a long distance, comfort orientated bike.

This tool is not suitable for Triathlon and Time Trial bikes; the Stack and Reach tool is more appropriate.

HOW TO USE SMARTFIT

OPTION 1 (ASK A FRIEND)

OPTION 2 (FIND A BOOK)

OPTION 1 (ASK A FRIEND)

  1. Find a tape measure and ask a friend for assistance.
  2. Measure from your crotch to the ground. Keep the tape straight and hold the tape as high into your crotch as it will comfortably go.Measure from your head to the ground keeping the tape straight. Make sure you don’t have shoes on.
  3. Write down your measurements and repeat the process twice to be sure.

OPTION 2 (FIND A BOOK)

  1. Find a hardback book and place it between your legs against the wall making sure it sits as high into your crotch as it will comfortably go.
  2. Keep the book in place and move away from the wall. Make a mark where the top of the book meets the wall and measure from the mark to the ground.
  3. Place the book on your head against the wall. Keep the book in place and move away from the wall. Make a mark where the bottom of the book meets the wall. Measure from the mark to the ground.
  4. Write down your measurements and repeat the process twice to be sure.

POINTERS & TIPS

Height Length

The SmartFit calculator works off a simple principle of frame shape (A-height and B-length), rather than one of frame "size" It does not, like so many other calculators, spit out traditional, one dimensional sizes such as "56" nor does it process numerous body dimensions through a complicated algorithm.

The system will take your inseam and height and calculate a basic frame shape from those measurements. It then offers personal fine tuning by means of the positional selector buttons, these being race/comfort & short/long reach. This gives you a certain degree of control over your final position on the bike, an option not offered by other body based calculators.

MAKING IT WORK

If you're looking for a fast reacting race bike with an aggressive position, select "race fit". If you're looking for a long distance, comfort orientated bike, select "comfort fit".

If you have long legs for your height, it is advisable to select "short reach". If you have short legs for your height, select "long reach".

For most average people, selecting "short reach" is the safer option but not necessarily the right one. If you find that your results are limited then selecting "long reach" will produce more results. You can then combine one of these alternatives with a shorter stem.
