Stem Length / Rise Graph

Stems are manufactured in a number of different rises, ie the degree they are angled at relative to 90 degrees. By far the most common are 6 degrees (otherwise called 84) and 8 degrees (otherwise called 82), but you can also find 7,10, 12, 16 and 17 degree rises.

Changing the stem angle will affect the height of the bar so this should be considered when performing a search. Below is a graphic illustration of how much height you gain or lose when you change stem length and/or rise.

If you're unsure of what size or stem configuration to choose have a look at the adjacent guide which will give you an idea of where your choices should be. By far the most common stem angle is -6 degrees, and suplied lengths are dependant on frame size.

STEM LENGTH PER FRAME SIZE GUIDE

The stem suggestions below are a guide to the usual/optimal stem lengths per frame size. This doesn't mean that you can't use a length not on the list, it simply means that you are moving away from the optimal parameters which relate specifically to bike handling

FRAME SIZE - STEM LENGTH

44-46 - 60/70/80

47-49 - 70/80/90

50-52 - 80/90/100

53-55 - 90/100/110

56-58 - 100/110/120

59-61 - 100/110/120

62-64 - 110/120/130
